Privacy Policy

The Nirvanist β€” www.thenirvanist.com Last updated: 22 June 2026

This Privacy Policy explains, in plain terms, what personal information we collect, why, and the choices and rights you have. We've tried to keep it clear and human β€” if anything is unclear, just ask us at hello@thenirvanist.com.

1. Who We Are

This Privacy Policy explains how The Nirvanist LLP ("The Nirvanist," "we," "us," "our"), a Limited Liability Partnership registered in England and Wales (company number OC460620, registered office 128 City Road, London, EC1V 2NX, UK), collects, uses, and protects personal data when you visit www.thenirvanist.com, register for a Satsang, book a Spiritual Journey, support The Heal Project, or otherwise interact with us. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.

This policy applies wherever you're located, but if you are in the UK or EU, you have specific rights described in Sections 9 and 13 under the UK GDPR / Data Protection Act 2018 and the EU GDPR respectively.

4. Special Category Data

Because of the spiritual and travel nature of our Services, we may occasionally hold data that reveals your religious/philosophical beliefs (e.g., your interest in particular traditions or teachers) or health information (e.g., dietary restrictions, medical conditions relevant to travel, accessibility needs). We only collect this where you choose to share it, we ask for your explicit consent to process it for the stated purpose (typically trip planning and safety), and we limit access to staff who need it to arrange your journey. We do not use this data for advertising or profiling.

5. Marketing Communications

If you opt in (for example, by ticking the newsletter box when you register for a Satsang, or signing up for the "Weekly Reset" on our homepage), we'll send you spiritual content and updates about Spiritual Journeys and Satsangs via MailerLite. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link in any email, or by emailing hello@thenirvanist.com. Where you've made a booking with us, we may also send you relevant service updates under the "soft opt-in" permitted by UK/EU e-privacy rules, always with an easy way to opt out.

A note on consent: we only add you to our mailing list when you actively choose to join β€” we don't use pre-ticked boxes, and signing up for one thing (like a Satsang) never automatically subscribes you to marketing.

6. Cookies & Similar Technologies

We use cookies and similar technologies to:

  • Essential cookies β€” keep the Website functioning (e.g., login sessions via Supabase Auth). These can't be switched off.
  • Analytics cookies β€” understand how visitors use the Website, so we can improve it.
  • Marketing cookies β€” (if used) measure the effectiveness of our content and campaigns.

Where required by law, we'll ask for your consent to non-essential cookies via a cookie banner before they're set, and you can change your preferences at any time through that banner or your browser settings.

7. Who We Share Your Data With

We share personal data with trusted service providers (our "processors") who help us run the Website and Services, under contracts that require them to protect your data and use it only for our purposes:

ProviderPurpose
SupabaseDatabase, authentication, file storage
NetlifyWebsite hosting
ResendTransactional emails (e.g., booking confirmations)
MailerLiteMarketing emails and newsletters

We may also share data with:

  • Our ground operations partner(s) in India (e.g., our local logistics and transport coordinator, accommodation providers, ashrams, local guides) β€” only the travel and contact details needed to arrange your stay, transport, or programming;
  • Professional advisors (accountants, lawyers) where necessary;
  • Authorities, where required by law or to protect rights, safety, or property.

We do not sell your personal data, and we don't share it with third parties for their own independent marketing purposes without your consent.

8. International Data Transfers

As an international team using service providers based in various countries (including the US and EU), we may transfer and store your data outside your home country. Where we transfer personal data of UK or EEA residents outside the UK/EEA, we rely on appropriate safeguards β€” such as the UK International Data Transfer Addendum or EU Standard Contractual Clauses, or transfers to countries the UK/EU recognise as providing adequate protection. You can ask us about the safeguard used for a specific transfer by contacting us (Section 12).

9. Your Rights

If you are in the UK or EU, you have the right to:

  • Access the personal data we hold about you;
  • Rectify inaccurate or incomplete data;
  • Erase your data ("right to be forgotten"), subject to legal exceptions (e.g., we may need to retain booking/financial records for tax purposes);
  • Restrict or object to certain processing, including direct marketing;
  • Port your data to another provider in a structured format;
  • Withdraw consent at any time where processing is based on consent;
  • Complain to your local data protection authority β€” in the UK, the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO); in the EU, your national supervisory authority (e.g., the CNIL in France, the DPA in Belgium).

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at hello@thenirvanist.com. We'll respond within the timeframes required by applicable law (generally one month).

If you're a California resident, you have similar rights under the CCPA/CPRA (e.g., to know, delete, and opt out of the "sale" or "sharing" of personal information β€” we don't sell personal information). Contact us at the same address to exercise these rights.

10. Data Retention

We keep personal data only as long as needed for the purpose it was collected, including to meet legal, accounting, or reporting obligations. As a general guide:

  • Booking and payment records: retained for 6 years after the relevant transaction, to meet UK tax and accounting requirements.
  • Marketing data: retained until you unsubscribe, or after 24 months of inactivity, whichever comes first.
  • Account data: retained while your account is active, and deleted within 12 months of closure unless we're required to keep it longer.

11. Security

We use technical and organisational measures appropriate to the sensitivity of the data we hold (e.g., encrypted connections, access controls, and reputable, security-vetted processors like Supabase and Stripe). No system is 100% secure, but we take reasonable steps to protect your data and will notify you and relevant authorities of any data breach where required by law.

12. Children's Privacy

Our Services are intended for adults. Spiritual Journeys and paid Services require participants to be 18 or older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 16 without appropriate parental consent, and we'll delete any such data we become aware of.

14. Automated Decision-Making
